As part of the 2017 APS rate case, APS can review their solar buyback rate every September. This rate has decreased every year since then, with the exception of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In February 2023, APS asked regulators to approve an additional $460 million in annual revenue, which would amount to an estimated 13.6% increase per month for all APS ratepayers. APS is hoping to secure approval this year, with the increase scheduled to take effect on December 1st, 2023.

In August 2022, the Inflation Reduction Act was signed into law, making the 30% solar tax credit retroactive to all 2022 installations and extends the 30% rate through 2032.
The Inflation Reduction Act also created a stand-alone 30% energy storage tax credit for battery systems of at least 3kWh, regardless of energy source.
